Fighting for recruits

Recruiters starting up a recruitment company might again want to consider specialising in the public sector, and specifically the emergency services.

Having previously written about a recruitment drive for policemen and women, Sonovate has now seen that North Warwickshire fire department is looking to recruit on-call firefighters as well as full-time staff.

Warwickshire County Council has set its sights on the areas of Polesworth, Coleshill and Atherstone in the hope of finding new recruits.

But it may not be an easy task for the recruiters on the job as the skills of a firefighter are quite specific. They need to be fit and healthy and must be housed within a five minute drive of the fire station – in case of an emergency call-out. Their time must be flexible and they must be prepared to be called into duty at least two or three times a week. They will also be heading along to drill nights each week as well as additional training sessions. It’s no small order.
