PAYE Calculator

Work out what to bill from your candidate’s pay, working days, hours and desired margin. This is a charge rate calculator for recruitment agencies, not a take-home pay calculator.

Enter your rates

Margin is a percentage of the client charge, not a markup on cost. Figures update as you type.

Weekly costs are rounded to the penny before adding your margin, so the breakdown adds up.

Indicative figures. Excludes NI and pension on holiday pay, other employer costs and service fees.

Calculation assumptions and exclusions

These figures are for illustrative purposes only and assume: 28 days holiday entitlement, category A National Insurance rates and qualifying earnings pension contributions. Our PAYE calculator should not be relied upon as financial or business advice. The information contained in this website is subject to change without notice.

This estimate applies NI and pension to basic candidate pay only. It excludes NI and pension on holiday pay, other employer costs and service fees. Holiday days are expressed on a five-day working week basis. Actual payroll costs depend on the worker's circumstances and how holiday pay is paid.

What this calculator works out

Enter the pay rate you have agreed with a candidate, the days and hours they will work, and the margin you want to make. The calculator returns the weekly and hourly or daily charge rate you need to bill, including estimated employer National Insurance, holiday pay and pension contributions on the assumptions above.

It works from what you pay the candidate, not from what the candidate receives, so it does not calculate income tax, employee National Insurance or a personal net pay figure.
